Over recent years successive governments have recognised the importance of skills and training and a number of strategies and policies have been introduced. There has been a focused campaign to ensure that post-16 technical and vocational education is better aligned to employer’s needs, and the Skills for Jobs white paper set out the blueprint for reshaping the technical skills system.
The training provider sector plays a critical role in ensuring that employers have access to the skills and training they require in order for them to compete effectively. The introduction of Local Skills Improvement Plans in 2022 are testament to this focus on greater and improved partnership working between education and industry.
The DCTPN works closely with the Greater Devon LSIP and the Cornwall & IOS LSIP – we recognise the importance of bringing together training providers and employers in order to effectively develop and deliver the skills and training that local employers want. Having access to the right skills and training supports economic development and growth, and is therefore an essential part of the role we play.
The Devon & Cornwall Training Providers Network (DCTPN) is committed to promoting the advancement of education and training across all age groups in order to improve access and participation in work-based learning, vocational and technical training for everyone. As a charitable organisation we focus, amongst other things, on ensuring that the public benefit is maximised in terms of quality of the training provision, access to this training provision alongside funding and support.
We actively promote post-16 learning, skills and training, and support those who deliver, employ and support those in receipt of this training.
As part of our commitment to ensuring that skills and training voice is heard across the region, we represent the sector on a number of Boards and Special Interest Groups. We want to make sure that skills and training are part of any planned future developments in the region.
The Network has a vital role to play within the training and skills agenda, and this can be seen via our work with Local Skills Improvement Plans, Local Skills Improvement Fund, Shared Prosperity Fund and Devolution.
To bring together the skills, knowledge and expertise of the post-16 education, training and skills sector to actively facilitate the advancement of education and skills.
Our objective is to raise awareness of post-16 work-based learning, vocational and technical training and associated opportunities in order to support individuals and businesses living and working across Devon & Cornwall. In addition, we aim, where possible, to support those who need financial assistance in order to access or complete training via our charitable grant’s facility.
A not-for-profit charitable organisation our vision is that everyone should have access to the skills and training they need to develop, grow and progress.
The Devon & Cornwall Training Providers Network exists to promote the advancement of education and training across all age groups in order to improve access and participation in work-based learning, vocational and technical training for everyone.
