The Devon & Cornwall Training Providers Network (DCTPN) is delighted to celebrate the success of its recent masterclass for training provider members.
The event, held at South Devon College, welcomed more than 40 providers from across Devon and Cornwall, reflecting strong regional commitment to enhancing teaching and learning excellence.
Led by renowned Further Education expert John Evans OBE, the session proved to be both engaging and highly practical, offering valuable insight into how providers can deliver more impactful and memorable learning experiences for vocational learners and apprentices.
The masterclass explored a range of innovative teaching strategies designed to bring classroom theory sessions to life, helping learners to engage more deeply and retain knowledge more effectively. John’s dynamic delivery and sector expertise provided attendees with actionable approaches they can embed into their own practice.

Key topics covered during the session included:
- Understanding the Ofsted toolkit
- Creating an exceptional learning culture
- Removing common apprenticeship ‘pitfalls’
With his extensive leadership background, including his role as former Principal & CEO of the Cornwall College Group and his experience as a long-standing Ofsted Inspector, John brought a powerful blend of insight, challenge and inspiration to the day.
Maria Woodger, Assistant Principal at South Devon College and Chair of the DCTPN Board, said: “John has a unique ability to engage practitioners and encourage them to view strategies through the lens of the learner or apprentice.
“His enthusiasm is infectious, creating an energising atmosphere that inspires reflection and meaningful discussion. It was a pleasure to be part of the event.”

Feedback from attendees highlighted the value of the session in supporting continuous improvement and raising standards across provision. DCTPN is proud to continue supporting its members through high-quality professional development opportunities that make a real difference in the classroom.
Nicky Hawkins, Programme Coordinator – Quality & professional Development at South Devon College, said: “John’s input was exceptionally valuable.
“His knack for keeping things real and relatable, combined with his extensive experience and credibility, created an engaging and inspiring learning experience for everyone involved.”
The next masterclass session is being held on 17 June in Cornwall and will focus on the Apprenticeship Review. Network members can book their place to attend by e-mailing us at enquiries@trainingprovider.com.
