Kya Harris

I am currently a 4th-year higher-level finance apprentice working at Babcock whilst also allocating some of my time to studying with Accountancy Learning. Since joining Babcock, I have gained exposure to reconciliation and consolidating roles, overhead accounting and, most recently, project accounting within the Submarines Business Unit.  I have taken on many tasks for which I am now solely responsible. Notable ones include; Running Health & Safety presentations to a cohort of 50 people weekly, establishing a thorough and financially sound recruitment process for the SBU, re-invigorating reviews of booking processes and standards and receiving highly commendable feedback from the Head of Finance, Submarine Director and Sector Finance Director on hard work and enthusiasm.

Alongside this, I get the opportunity to study towards earning a full AAT qualification whilst I work. I spent 20% of my working week attributed towards studying which has significantly helped me perform well in my exams. The support at Accountancy Learning is fantastic as I have a college tutor from which I have access every day of the week and an array of resources online to help ensure I am adequately prepared before I sit an exam. The Apprenticeship itself also really helps with my personal development, allowing me an opportunity to reflect on past activities and identify key pieces of learning at each stage. This has really allowed me to grow into the roles that I work within and excel with tasks that are given to me.

I would highly recommend both Babcock and Accountancy Learning to anyone looking to pursue finance as a career as they are springboards to getting the necessary qualifications and a job for life.

"Kya is a great student who is always motivated, and talkative and clearly loves his role at Babcock. Kya has just started his Level 4 AAT Apprenticeships, after completing the previous levels, and I am sure he is set to have a bright career in Accountancy" Lydia Markham MAAT
