My journey with Achievement Training began earlier this year. I was interested in accountancy and met with the apprenticeship team to discuss any available vacancies. This is where I leant about the pre-apprenticeship programme. I was referred to the Traineeship Coordinator who told me more about the programme and how I could benefit from completing a work placement. I previously studied A-Level math to develop my numerical skills – however, I preferred the idea of learning whilst I worked and this programme was a brilliant opportunity to do this. Not only would it prepare me for the working environment, but it would also provide me with the necessary skills to begin a career in finance. The recruitment team contacted employers on my behalf and shortly after, the Central Services Manager at Colebrook South West agreed to meet with me to discuss providing a work placement for me. I am now volunteering with this company three days a week, supporting staff within the finance and administration department.  I am currently 10 weeks into the programme and I am really enjoying it! As each day passes, I have become more confident in my abilities and I am keen to apply these skills in an apprenticeship or job. Now that I have completed the requirements of this programme, I am searching for finance jobs and Apprenticeships; I have had a few interviews and have a trial day arranged next week for a position within a wealth management group. Without completing the Pre Apprenticeship programme I feel I would not have come so far already, it really has given me the knowledge and experience to prepare me for the working world.

In September 2016, Jamie applied for various Finance apprenticeship s and was offered the choice of two! He chose to take the post at St Lukes Hospice head office in Plymouth.  He is working towards Level 2 Certificate in accounting AAT.
